Oh, What a Difference Some Paint Can Make! (and my new favorite photo of Elijah)

Our Fixer-Upper house came with a slew of strange paint colors.  Many of the rooms had light green ceilings and all of the upstairs rooms had very dark (orange, green or brown) paint with a dark brown wash over the top. Not my cup of tea.

After living in this house for three years we finally got around to repainting one of the upstairs bedrooms, which had been driving me nuts for as long as we'd lived in the house.

See what I mean?  No, the settings on my camera are not off.  That was the actual color of the room. Yes, the ceiling is green.

Elijah's room has been transformed, and all it took was a couple gallons of paint and a few hours of work.

I began by painting the ceiling flat white, and even that made such a huge difference, I could hardly believe it.  I then removed the wallpaper border (using this handy trick) and painted the walls a very slightly off-white.

Drumroll please....

I am more than pleased with how it turned out.  It looks so much more clean and inviting.  And it's much brighter, which makes the room appear larger. I've hung up a few simple decorations, but mostly I've just been enjoying the look of this blank slate for the past few weeks.  I'm sure more decor will come in the future.

And now for the cutest face in all the land:

Okay, back on track with the room photos:

I adore this painting by Liz Lemon Swindle.  Each day as I rock Elijah before he goes to sleep he points at the painting and says,"Jesus".  Actually he says, "Jsssss", and it melts my heart every time.  Read the beautiful story of the painting, entitled "Worth of a Soul" here.

The trim and doors in the upstairs are one of the things we fell in love with when we saw this house. I feel like this paint color shows them off much better than what was previously on the walls.

I'm filing this paint job under Why Didn't We Do This Sooner? and I'm dreaming up what else I'd love to add to the walls.  Any suggestions?

I have to share my favorite photo again.  Elijah makes this face many times a day because he receives such a reaction for it.  Have you ever seen cuter eyebrows?
