I'm studying the Old Testament this year (these are the resources I'm loving) and sharing sketchnotes for each of the books of the Old Testament along the way. I am a visual learner and gain so much more insight from doodling as I study. It helps me map out situations, understand relationships and remember the words I read.
So much of Deuteronomy is specific instruction given to God's people, and reiteration of the laws. As I was studying it was hard for me to stay focused and find the direction that I could apply to my own life. But as is always the case, as I dug deeper, I found many powerful and profound phrases that apply specifically to me and to all of us as God's children.
While these sketchnotes don't contain a lot of doodles (especially when compared to a book like Genesis, which includes many stories) they are full of the beautiful words that God spoke to His people. To us.
The Lord your God shall fight for you
The Lord is God in Heaven above and in the earth beneath
The Lord thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.
If Thou shalt seek the Lord, thou shalt find him; if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.
The Lord talked to you face to face
He will not forsake thee
Go thou near and hear all that the Lord our God shall say
And thou shalt Love the Lord thy God with all thine heart & all thy soul & all thy might.
Do what is right and good.
Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God.
Walk in His ways.
He will love thee and bless thee.
The Lord loved you.
Remember the Lord thy God
What doth the Lord require of thee?
Teach them diligently unto thy children
Thou shalt love the Lord thy God.

How to use Scripture Sketchnotes:
I like to trace the doodles and phrases directly into my scriptures. I use a homemade lightbox (my husband is amazing!) But this lightbox would work really well, too.I like to use colored pencils so I can still read and use my scriptures. I LOVE these Staedtler Ergosoft colored pencils. I use them exclusively to add color in my scriptures. They give a beautiful vibrant color and blend really well together. They are soft enough that they've never ripped through the thin pages.
