Skillet Bread

This simple and versatile recipe is my go-to for a quick and easy accompaniment to soups and chili.

It came from my dear old Daddy and has been a hit in our family for as long as I can remember.

Ingredients:

3 T Butter
2 C Flour (any kind you like)
1 T Baking Powder
1/2 C add-ins, if desired*
1 t salt
Milk

Directions:

Preheat oven to 400F with cast iron skillet in the oven.  Mix together dry ingredients then add milk until it looks like thick pancake batter.  Add butter to hot skillet and wait until butter bubbles.  Pour batter into the skillet and bake 20-25 mintues or until top is golden brown.  Enjoy!


This bread is definitely best served warm and fresh.  We don't love it as much after a day or two, but we rarely have leftovers anyway. :)




*This bread is very versatile and can be changed to compliment any cuisine you may be serving. Some common add ins: cheese, crumbled bacon, taco seasoning, minced onions, minced garlic.
